The Church of God Missionary Retreat 2006
For six of the past seven years many of the missionaries who serve in Haiti
have taken a weekend away from our normal work, packed up our families, and even
a few friends and took time to get away from the city. Most of what was
accomplished at these retreats consisted of relaxing, swimming, playing games,
and even learning some things of value to our personal and spiritual lives along
the way.

This year, as in most years, we went to Zanglais, a small beachside town on
the south coast of Haiti. We stay at a retreat center which is run by the
Baptist Church of Southern Haiti. It’s a great place to relax and just get away
from it all.
You can see from the pictures that Zanglais is a beautiful place and a great
place to come for rest and renewal.
We have always been blessed to have great resource persons. They have
educated us in everything from ecology, to personal encounter techniques, to
personal spiritual growth, and most recently we have been learning lots about
the history of the Church of God, what we believe, and how our beliefs relate to
those other churches and persons with whom we come into contact.
This year we had as our resource persons, Dr. Barry
and Jan Callen from Anderson, Indiana. Barry is recently retired from Anderson
University where he has filled many roles, everything from resident writer to
Bible professor to Dean of the Anderson School of Theology. He has written many
biographies about the lives of church leaders. Most recently since retiring, he
is working as a special advisor to the General Director of the Church of God,
Ron Duncan. Jan has long been a high school English teacher in the Anderson
School System where she continues to challenge young minds to greatness.
