Dear Supporters and Friends,
Greetings from Haiti. I trust your Christmas and New Years Holidays was
an arrow pointing toward Christ, the reason for All seasons.
We had a great time here this Christmas. In addition to the usual kinds
of Christmas things, we took the opportunity to get away from work for a while
and spent a few days at the beach. Since Haiti is known so much for the
practice of Voodoo and for being a country crowded with a very poor population
with all their needs, a lot of people don’t even think about it being a real
Caribbean island. There are many beautiful beaches that are not far from our
home just outside Port-au-Prince and we try to take advantage of them whenever
we get the opportunity. It was a true time of refreshment.
The work continues though. Jodie, Jacquie, and Jessica have recently
finished the first semester in school. Jacquie, our senior, finally made her
commitment to start her college education at Anderson University. We are
thrilled that she has succumbed to her parental pressure to go to Anderson in
addition to the fact that she has qualified for a rather major scholarship. We
hope that scholarship will someday keep both she and her parents out of the poor
house.
The clinics continue to be a true ministry to those in the areas of
Prospere and Ft. Jacques. The patient numbers have leveled off and there seem
to be no major kinds of epidemics just now. That makes the work very
comfortable and fulfilling. Another part of the comfort is the fact that our
Toyota is finally back on the road. It makes those clinics much more easy to
arrive at in shape to work. Thanks to all those who supported us in prayer or
giving during the times of transportation problems. We trust you know that you
are an important part of our ministry here, because you are.
Some of you may know Barry and Arlene Callen from Anderson, Indiana.
They have been part of our family ever since I attended Anderson College. In
fact, prior to leaving for Haiti Jodie and I moved in with them and it was
during that time that Jacquie was born and was brought to their home at a fresh
six hours old. Well, Arlene now has cancer and is not expected to live until
the summer. Early in January a friend gave me the funds so I could fly to
Anderson and spend a week just being with them, trying to help out, and saying
good-by. As friends of friends please pray for both Arlene and Barry, both true
saints who find themselves in a very dark valley. They know that valley will
end in the sun but it’s just a hard road getting there.
Again, to all you who support us and our work through prayer and
financial giving, our sincere thanks. Without you we wouldn’t be able to have
the fun we have doing frontline work for the King.
Because of Christ,
John, Jodie, Jacquie, and Jessica,
